On Sunday, November 10, clergy, religious, consecrated and lay faithful gathered from across the Archdiocese of Toronto to participate in “Unpacking the Synod on Synodality”, a roundtable discussion held at St. Michael’s College School Theatre. Moderated by Dr. Josephine Lombardi, the conversation featured a distinguished panel of insightful and credible voices that included Sr. Nathalie Becquart, XMCJ, undersecretary of the Synod of Bishops, Archbishop J. Michael Miller CSB of Vancouver, theologians Dr. Moira McQueen and Sr. Gill Goulding, CJ. The Most Rev. Francis Leo led prayer and welcomed guests to the event, which provided an opportunity for deeper reflection on the recently completed Synod on Synodality.

You can learn more about the Synod on Synodality by visiting the official website here. The working English translation of the final synod document can also be accessed online here.

In his homily at Mass following the close of the synod, Pope Francis remarked:

“We cannot remain inert before the questions raised by the women and men of today, before the challenges of our time, the urgency of evangelization and the many wounds that afflict humanity.”

The Holy Father also stressed the importance of being a Church that embraces the cry of humanity and accepting the challenge to bring the light of Christ’s gospel to others: “Not a static Church, but a missionary Church that walks with her Lord through the streets of the world.”

We give thanks for all those who had the opportunity to participate in this informative gathering in Toronto as well as those who participated in the Synod in Rome and local consultations in dioceses throughout the world.
